  1. I’m not surprised that you have such a large non-digi audience. Digital scrapbooking brings many skills together: organizing a large project, motivating yourself to continue working on a large project, learning how to break large projects into small ones, using graphics programs, composition, writing, dealing with big emotions, coordinating with family members, color theory, typography…someone somewhere can learn something from all the different ways you all have learned these skills.

  2. Erika Clark says:

I just logged on to take your poll. Two things…I love you all, and enjoy your show even more each episode. Your podcasts run so smoothly since you took over, Steph, and today, I was listening to the PRT when I got the email that there was a new digi show. I immediately paused PRT and downloaded your show, because I enjoy it that much more. I’m a 50/50 scrapper, digi when I’m traveling, paper when I’m home. So both shows are relevant, but I get more useable info (esp techie stuff) from yours.

OK, #2 and ref to an old show…Peppermint, I took your advice on The Weepies. You’re right, it’s really soothing. But the lyrics! Just for kicks, I listnened for a while, and each song had sadder words! “Cry” “headache” “die”. I have a weird sense of humor, so I found it amusing. So much angst! Reminds me of my poor, sad teenagehood clinging to a Smiths cassette. :D good stuff! Erika

    • Peppermint says:

Yes, they definitely straddle the line between angst and joy. Which album were you listening to? Their earlier albums were a lot more broody, then they had their sons and released Be My Thrill and it was a lot more upbeat and stylized – which some fans really like to complain about. Personally I think Be My Thrill is an amazing album, I like where they’re heading.

    • Katie says:

Thanks so much for the nice words about The Digi Show! :)

  3. Lori says:

So glad to hear you are trying to get Linda Sattgast on the show–she is an INCREDIBLE digi-scrapping instructor, with such a warm and welcoming attitude.

    • iDebbie says:

I agree! I’ve been a Premier member there for several years, and have also taken all of her classes. She’s great! :)

  4. Laurel says:

I love listening to all of you every week! Katie — I know where Oakley is. I grew up in Heber. I feel like I’m connected to all of the regulars somehow — I grew up in Utah, lived in Wisconsin for 6 years, and now live in Washington (although on the dry, desert side of the state — not all of Washington is green); and we all LOVE digiscrapping. What more can you ask for :) Keep up the great work ladies!

  5. Sarah says:

Katrina…thanks so much for your pick last week. I started using 750 words right after listening to the show on Friday and I’m now on a 4 day streak (and counting). I always struggle with finding easy ways to journal and I’m finding this to be both easy and rewarding. I’ve been spending the first 20 minutes or so of my day with a cup of coffee and 750 words and I find that I love starting my day this way and just wanted to say thanks for the excellent pick.

    • Cara S says:

The 750words.com was such a great pick! I just wrote my first 750, and am looking forward to using the site to get me to write more. Thanks Katrina!

  6. Charlene says:

Great show! I loved all the ideas from this show :)

  7. coffeebabs says:

Just went on a trip and re-listened to some of your previous few shows and I have some questions? How do you, Katie, choose which classes to take? And, how do you have the time? Do you just plan on always be taking a class? To be honest, I am a bit overwhelmed of the many classes to take (so many good ones!) and I don’t know where to start! Do you have a system?

Another question. On one of the shows, you talked about getting together and cropping. Have you thought of putting an area on The Daily Digi where people could link up? Maybe by states. Maybe you could have a yearly crop at the same time where you could link up by video…. At any rate, love seeing your email when a new show is available!

    • Peppermint says:

I’ve often wondered how Katie manages to fit so many classes in, too. She definitely knows how to use every single minute of a day – I keep hoping that some of her efficiency will rub off on me.

    • Katie says:

I almost always have a class in my queue somewhere. That’s why I have to take classes that allow access even after it ends. Sometimes I don’t get to them right away, but I love to be learning and I feel like it’s really important that I keep fresh since I’m trying to motivate and teach others through my role at The Daily Digi, on my own blog, and on this podcast. It’s much harder to keep up during the school year though. I’ve really fallen behind lately. Doesn’t seem to stop me from signing up for more though – I just love them too much!

I don’t really have too much of a system. I go a lot on who’s teaching. I can usually tell if I can relate to their teaching style by reading their blog or reading some of their writing. Once I find a teacher I like, I’m very loyal to them because I love finding someone I can learn from.

I think this would be a great topic to discuss further on the show sometime because there really are a TON of great classes out there!

  8. Katie (sakura-panda) says:

This was a great discussion! Fall has always been my favorite season and most of my scrapbooking and picture taking is in the fall — I thought it was because we have so many outside activities, with the pumpkin patches, orchards, corn mazes, birthdays and Halloween, but maybe it is just because the colors are so perfectly gorgeous!

My favorite fall colors for scrapping are orange, red and brown, with a little green and yellow for good measure. I’m still using autumn kits that I bought when I first started scrapbooking — I think it is the one season I actually *don’t* shop for new kits because I haven’t gotten tired of them and just keep using the same old ones. It seems I’ve been missing out — I didn’t know they came with *blue* in them now! (And that is just too cute!) It’s time for me to go see what else I’ve been missing.

On a somewhat off-topic note, I came across a deal on Adobe Lightroom, which I never would have considered it in the past, but from listening to the show I have learned that it can be used for more than just batch processing of RAW photos. I searched The Daily Digi site, read Katie’s Lightroom tutorial and immediately placed my order. I can’t believe how excited I am to get it and it’s all because of The Digi Show! Thanks!

  9. LaraR says:

Thanks for reading my mail and expanding on the topic of PSE 10. I’ve look at more reviews this week and I still think it is worth the upgrade. That is the nice thing about PSE the cost to upgrade isn’t too bad compared to the full PS version. I’m stocking Costco each week when I go. :) Thanks again ladies for a great show. I always enjoy your show and learn so much.

  10. iDebbie says:

If you get the Costco coupon book in the mail it should be listed in the next one
that comes out. It’s always been $30 off in the past. I hope it still is for those who are waiting for it.

I have to add that I don’t agree with Katie (the only time I swear!! ;)) when she said if you have version 8 or 9 then it’s not much of a change to upgrade to 10. Version 9 added layer masks and that’s pretty darn big all by itself!! No more crazy work arounds to try and mask stuff. I think going from 8 to 10 is HUGE, but 9 to 10 I agree isn’t much of a difference. :)

  11. Tiffany says:

I struggled scrapping Halloween last year because my son dressed as Spider-Man, and he didn’t seem to go well with Halloween kits – their colors and also themes like ghosts and witches. Any ideas on how to scrap the bright super-hero colors with the usual Halloween kits?

I was excited to hear Apple Hill mentioned because I live near Sacramento, and it sounds like Katrina is in this area. I’ve never been to Apple Hill myself, but it was still exciting to hear about it. LOL.

I know you read the e-mails on your show, but how do people send in e-mails? I can’t find a way.

    • Gennifer says:

Tiffany, I have had the same problem! Between a few superhero, princess, and cheerleader costumes, I wanted some non-spooky Halloween kits, too.

There might be one releasing somewhere tomorrow that would work for you. ;)

You could stick with black/white/grey papers out of a Halloween kit, or use a superhero kit (I know there’s a few out there) instead of a Halloween one. Or, I did one of my son (http://www.designhousedigital.com/gallery/decorator-gallery/p12845-superkid.html) using only a neutral paper, a starburst (from Erica Hernandez’s ‘Think About It’), a comic font, and a comic action.

Hope this helps a little! :)

  12. Lisa says:

Hands up — this comment is in no way shape or form related to this week’s episode, but I had to share with someone and as I don’t know a single IRL digital scrapbooker I thought I’d throw it up here. I found a nice (albeit small) site with some really high-res images – I particularly like them because most are shot on a white background so they’re easy to extract. Found here: http://freephotos.vierdrie.nl/ I loved the ones of rusty tools and plan to use it on the next layout of my “boys” working on something or another. (Also like his/her photos of cameras.) Aaaaaaaaaanyway … thought someone else might benefit as well.

    Thanks for another great show!
    Lisa

  13. Ann says:

How funny – I am one of those people who listens, somedays have no idea what you are talking about – really what is “text on a path”. I am also a Playbook/Digi membership but really don’t digitally scrapbook. I just want to support anyone and everyone who works in this industry. Someday I would love to digi scrap. I currently have PSE7, never really learned it fully, only use what I know. Should I really learn PSE7 before I upgrade to 10 or should I upgrade and forget about learning PSE7. I work both in Storybook Creator (Creative memories) and PSE because most of the people I follow use Photoshop templates. Really wish everything was compatible. Any thoughts on upgrade.

    • Katie says:

I’m torn on how to answer you because I’m really loving PSE 10. But PSE 7 is also a great program and you will be able to do great things in it. It’s all a matter of if you want to spend extra money now. There’s no need to do that, just if you want to. The skills you learn in PSE 7 will carry over just fine if you upgrade in the future. The programs pretty much just keep expanding, they don’t change drastically from version to version.

      I hope that helps :)

  14. mrshobbes says:

Thanks for a throughly awesome episode, ladies! As one of “those who live in tropical countries” I had a major case of fall envy, lol. However, I have to say that I have absolutely no trouble scrapping with fall kits! It’s very strange–and hilarious–but my fall kit folder is my second-largest, after spring (which technically we also don’t get). Like you all I LOVE the color palette of fall. I wish I could have my own throwing-leaves photos and at-the-pumpkin-patch photos. There are two places that come to mind when I think of getting possible autumn-inspired photos: my old university with its hundred-year-old trees (yes, some that “kiss” each other across the road) and farther north, a venue used for corporate training that has sprawling gardens. I just may plan on trip (or two!) to both and get my own fall shots! :)

Instead, I scrap who I usually scrap–my family, my friends, myself. I love Thanksgiving kits that focus on the gratitude/value-driven part of the holiday, though I giggle at toikey (turkey) doodles.

I’m not a fan of Halloween kits though–I think there have only been two Halloween kits I’ve truly loved, and that was because their colors weren’t the usual green, orange, and black.

    • Katie says:

That’s so interesting to hear that you still enjoy using those kits, even without experiencing those seasons. thanks for sharing! :)

  15. mrshobbes says:

Oopsie, just wanted to add that I visited 750words.com and Katrina, I am a HUGE fan of The Artist’s Way. I had done morning pages before (when I did the course) and started doing it again this year, writing in longhand on a notebook. It was one of my New52 entries on my blog :) I’m intrigued at trying an online version, though. I’m going to give it a shot because morning pages have really really helped me figure out stuff in my head :)

    Here’s my blog post: http://mrshobbes.wordpress.com/2011/02/08/new52-week-six/

Anna Aspnes has loaded her Helloween kit back. Here’s a link: http://www.oscraps.com/shop/product.php?productid=28618&cat=0&page=1

  17. Anna Aspnes says:

Thanks for the mention :) I see Kendra has added a link. I revisited the Helloween PageSet which is now ArtPlay Palette Helloween in the Oscraps store and added per this request. Cheers ~ Anna

  18. Angie Gladwell says:

Hi Ladies, I have a question about PSE 9. We all talk about how great the upgrade was because it includes layer masks now. I don’t really understand what that will do for me. I know, I am still a newbie, I learned to use shortcuts with the “Mad Digi Skillz” course I bought at Get it Scrapped because her course was for PSE 8. What am I missing here? Also, I wanted to let you know I am having a total party with my alphas thanks to you ladies now that I know how to align them. You guys are the best,. Keep up the great work.

  19. Teri says:

Just started listening to your show regularly and trying to get caught up. I listen on my phone while driving into work. I’m so glad I always have paper and a pen to jot down the websites and ideas that you all are always mentioning. I have just a couple comments and a question.
Katie, Your description of your daughter being like Buddy the Elf…LMAO, I laughed so hard I almost had to stop the car. That is me so much!
Peppermint – thank you for the Pixlr o matic, I too had instagram envy and have an android. Any more apps? Bring them on!

My question may have to be answered on a show or in private, not sure.
I have been digi scrapping since 2009. Now I have alot of other arts that I like to pursue, so I haven’t made a lot of layouts since then, plus life gets in the way. I have continued collecting all things digi all this time. My question is about designers. With all due respect, nothing personal, but is there really any reason that I would want to always know who the designer is of each and every piece that I am working with? I will not EVER be submitting my work, did I say EVER? I saw what that has done to a few friends of mine on the paper side, and I will not go that route. Am I missing something in terms of “knowing” designers, or having to keep track of all of the ones that put out quality work?
I appreciate what you all are doing in terms of sharing your experience with all of us. I sure do learn a lot from you.
    Thanks so much
    Teri
