  1. Melissa says:

    Great episode as usual :)
Oh my goodness LOVED the picks today
    Off to swizzle now!
I have an EYE FI card and I’m in love…
Hey Katie – I’m in the same Silhouette class! :) See you in there!

  2. LeeAndra says:

Peppermint, you must be a friggin’ beast to have been able to hobble around on a broken toe for a couple days. Yeesh.

When I broke my left pinky toe several years ago falling down a staircase, I had to crawl back up the stairs on my hands and knees because putting pressure on said foot caused searing pain to run up and down my body… in between the sobbing and the blubbering, of course.

Pretty sure appearing on The Digi Show with a broken bone and not mentioning it until the last 5 minutes of the show elevates you from the ‘regular regular’ to the ‘pretty-dang-amazing regular.’

    • steph says:

I think I’ll start using that to introduce her! ;)

    • Peppermint says:

We talked about this in Episode 62 – but I wanted to make sure to clarify in the comments, too, that I did NOT hobble around at all on my broken toe. LOL

I laid on my couch with my foot elevated, held a bag of frozen corn on there a every couple of hours to keep the swelling down and took massive amounts of Ibuprofen until Monday when I went into the hospital.

  3. linda says:

Really love the idea of ScrapStacks and I think it’s fabulous to have one place that sort of keeps record of our scrapbooking online. I’m definitely cautious in regards to posting my own digital products and guidelines would help a lot – I don’t want to step on any toes!

Wondering, is there a way to suggest tags at some point so that basic information like 12×12 versus 8.5×11 sized layouts could be differentiated, etc… it’s something I always personally search for!

    • Penny says:

      Linda,
Thanks for the idea. I’ll post a tips for digital designers on the blog soon! Quickly though, you may post your own products, tutorials, layouts, etc. Linking back to the product is a must in my opinion. You may not post CU items, Sale Flyers, or require your CT to reStack your product images.

Yes, you may tag, but the better option would be to add your dimensions to the page description. The search function uses the description to pull results.

    • linda says:

Thanks for the clarification Penny! It’s been so fun exploring in ScrapStacks these days – great for scrapbooking inspiration. I wonder if there’s a way to see my own likes?

  4. McBDesigns says:

I’m only 1/2 through this episode & loving every minute of it. I’ve been on ScrapStacks for a bit less than 2 weeks & am tickled that my #of Scraps is more than Katie & Steph combined :D I’m following the 10 upload a day rule and LOVING being able to put all of my layouts with links to the many different stores/designers. I was so happy to find the back button fixed AND to discover restacking goes back to the original. THANKS Penny!

  5. Sherrie says:

Steph, A couple of episodes ago you spoke about getting prints made into canvas and that you would link to that post? I can’t seem to find that post can you give me a link to it please!! I would love to read that post I want to get some prints made into a canvas and have no idea what to do and because they’re kinda pricey I sure don’t want to make a mistake and any help I can get to learn about them would be awesome!!

    Thanks in advance!

    • steph says:

Can you tell me which show it was? I don’t remember talking about that. I’ve actually never printed any canvases.

I think I might have talked about transferring some artwork to a canvas, which is more messy. ;) Here are those links:
      /creating-home-decor-from-digital-scrapbooking-supplies/
      /youre-not-one-in-a-million-and-a-printable/

      • Sherrie says:

Steph, I believe it was episode 57, but I will find out and let you know! Maybe I misunderstood I thought you were talking about making photo images into canvas?? Thanks Steph I’ll get back..

  6. McAmy says:

I haven’t had a chance to listen to today’s show yet, but Steph I have a question about two-page layouts. I’m not sure if you mentioned this in any of your discussions… Since hearing you talk about how much you love two page spreads, I’ve seen more and more two-page layout templates. They are very enticing but I’ve noticed a lot of them have picture spots, usually smaller ones, that go right across the page break. How do you handle this when it is time to print? Do you embrace or avoid? Thanks!

    • steph says:

I avoid templates that have photos over the divide. Once in a while, if there is a photo there, I move them. I don’t really like photos printing on the divide, even on the layflat books at Adorama.

  7. Diane says:

Thank you for such a great interview. I came across Scrap Stacks via Daily Digi – thank you! So easy to have everything scrapbook in one place. I think the rule about only uploading your own work is brilliant. I love that there’s a mix of scrapbook pages and products. Maybe it’ll help against spamming in the long run. And not having Commercial Use products is also good. Thanks again for the interview.

  8. Charlene says:

I am both a digi and paper scrapper. I am wondering can I stack both “types” of my layouts there?

    • Penny says:

      Charlene,
Yes, please stack both! I would love the site to represent ALL SCRAPPERS! I’m adding a paper category, so people will be able to find paper layouts/products more quickly. Look for it soon!

  9. Yes – in the rules it says “Post any of your own paper or digital layouts, projects, products, and tutorials. “

  10. Tiffany says:

I haven’t listened to the show yet, but I have a burning question after seeing that Anna Forrest is retiring (read it in the Friday post at TDD). I think I want to get the Credit Tracker, and I believe I’ve heard you guys rave about it. I’ve always procrastinated getting it, but now I gotta make up my mind! The product says to build your layout in your “usual way” and everything will work. But I’m worried that my “usual way” isn’t the right way. I tend to have my files open in Photoshop, and I like the tabs across the top for each file. I tend to drag my element or paper over the the tab of my layout file to place them in the layout. But I also sometimes copy and past them in too. Will these methods work for the Credit tracker? Maybe you guys can answer, but I also think Anna watches these comments and might be able to answer herself.

    • Melissa Shanhun says:

Tiffany, credit tracker works with dragging in, duplicating layers and file place

I’m not sure about copy & paste though :)

So sad to see Anna retiring

    • Anna Forrest says:

      Hey Tiffany –

You’d probably find the credit tracker a bit hard to get used to the way it sounds like you’re scrapping. The credits are only (automatically) captured when you use photoshop’s ‘File-Open’ command if you let the script copy the element immediately into your layout.

If you copy/paste the element into your layout or drag it in yourself – then you’d need to manually assign the kit for that layer. You can do it, but it defeats the purpose of the ability to automatically capture things for you a bit :)

      Hope that helps!

  11. Dawn N says:

Great episode – i am also loving scrap stacks and I am a huge PS fan so when I heard Penny was your guest I (gol) gasped out loud! I loved the tips I didnt know about the drop down at the top – I get mesmerized by the pretty pics I never looked up there. Thanks Katie!

I am also super excited about the pics this week and cant wait to check them out –

Peppermint, hope you are feeling better, I hate to bother you while in a drugged state, but you mentioned on the show a way that you can add a + to your google email address and everything sent to that will get automatically tagged? I am confused – i hope when you sober up you can elaborate on how to do that.

As always Steph & ladies – thanks for doing this! It’s my weekly addiction! And Penny knowing I have a place to keep my layouts (not to many posted yet) I have new inspiration to scrap again! thanks!!

  12. says:

LOL So apparently being a klutz and scrapbook designer uses the same part of the brain. I am a klutz and designer too.

Thanks sooo much for explaining StrapStacks. This will be my new hobby. So exciting!

  13. Crystal (Lukasmummy) says:

I was just curious if the no CU policy would apply to layered templates that are ok for CT use at Scrap Stacks? Hugs Crystal xx

    • Penny says:

Crystal, I’m not sure what you mean. Can you give me an example?
      Thanks!

      • Crystal (Lukasmummy) says:

Sorry I just meant that a lot of designers make templates that are CU OK so if they were to post them would that be against the no commercial use policy? I’m not a designer I was just curious. Hugs Crystal xx

  14. WendyBird says:

Steph, thanks so much for picking my Silhouette tutorial! Silhouette Studio does have a little bit of learning curve, but after using it a couple of times it makes sense :) I have more Silhouette tutorials in the works!

Penny, I think Crystal is talking about page templates – ones that are generally used for personal use but happen to be CU ok. For example, Scrapping with Liz and my hybrid templates, both at Scrap Orchard. I’d love to be able to stack them, but am restricted.

    • Penny says:

Ah, I think I understand. If it’s a template you used to create a layout or a hybrid project, that’s fine. Posting the CU template product is not allowed at this time (I’m still on the fence about CU templates – so this might change in the future).

  15. coffeebabs says:

Was wondering how Peppermint liked her pick, “Swizzle”?

    • Peppermint says:

I like it a lot, actually! I’ve done some tweaking on it, I’ve re-scanned my inbox a few times to add more newsletters to it and I’ve also removed a few from the daily digest because I prefer to get them in real time. But overall I like it a lot! It’s handy to get the one email every morning and then just skim the thumbnails in that daily digest to see if any of the ads/newsletters jump out at me.

  16. Tiffany says:

What is the difference between Stacks, Tags and the Categories? I started with a yearly Stack, but also tried to make some other Stacks for my layouts with certain themes – like 2-pagers, or layouts about conversations and quotes. If I reStack to those, then my layouts are showing up twice, and I don’t like that. Should I use a Tag instead?

    • Penny says:

      Tiffany –
Stacks = albums (you choose how you want to build them and have control over the content included)
Categories = site wide albums (if you want more people to see your work, add it to a category)
Tags = other important info that isn’t a category (Right now, you can’t search tags, but if you tag an item or see an item that was tagged and click on the tag, you will see all of the other images also tagged with the same term.)
      Hope this helps!

  17. Jackie B says:

I have a question of a different nature: I am charged with creating a postcard with a “Save the Date” for our 50th reunion of our nursing class. Can anyone point me to some good digital card/postcard making sites? Thanks.

    • steph says:

I would do some searches on Pinterest :)

    • L Squared says:

I’ve had really good luck printing at Overnight prints – I haven’t used their design software but found uploading my own digital designs worked well. They list the recommended bleed sizes as well. Good luck.

  18. Anyone know if you can add a page to more than one stack when you first add so you don’t have to go back and re-stack it later?

  19. Shanti O says:

I haven’t finished to listed to the show but I have a couple of questions.
When someone stacks, they add great descriptions of the kit or layout including credits.
If I re-stack, their decription text gets transfered along with the image (which I think is great) but I can’t wrap my mind around if I should write “re-stacked” or “by the original stacker” or something like that to keep the text so it doesn’t look like it was my image but still has the information in case someone else want to re-stack it from my stack.
And also, if I want to add something for myself, like “I love this combination” or “remember to do that” or whatever, if I should add it before or after the original text.
I hope I’m explaining myself. I’d like to know what you think about that.

And also, Penny, I have a lot of layouts from when I started that I wasn’t uploading at all in galleries and I didn’t know that I had to keep track of the supplies I used. So I have a lot of layouts with out credits. Can I still upload them to the site?

    Thanks for another great show!

    • steph says:

As far as your first two questions I always keep the original text and if I want to add something, I add it to the top…mostly cause it’s easier for me to insert it that way and easier to find later. You could also add your name to it if you wanted to help other people know what was from you and what was part of the original post.

  20. Tina says:

This question is for Steph. I haven’t heard you say much about your Mac lately. I’m seriously thinking about saving my pennies for one, but am a little apprehensive about switching from a PC. Are you loving it yet? If so, what do you love about it?
    As usual love the show!!

    • steph says:

I stopped talking about it because every time I did, we had audio issues and I fear the wrath of our Apple listeners.

I’ll be honest….I don’t love it. I really have found my Mac to be just as unpredictable as my PC (more so, actually). To be completely honest, I can be heard saying, “I hate this machine!” 10x more than I say it about my PC. In fact, I don’t say it about my PC at all. Here are my biggest complaints:
      – it won’t stay connected to my wi-fi, but my PC does. It just drops the connection and the only way to reconnect (I’ve tried everything) is to do a restart.
      – I can’t save anything or save over anything in dropbox or any other harddrive unless it was created on a Mac first. So, any PSD files, JPEGs, anything cannot be edited on my mac and then saved, I have to save it with a new name. (Done lots of research and it is an OS bug that only affects some users…lucky me)
      – I can’t save to my external harddrives period on my mac (again an OS bug), so I have to save everything to dropbox and then get on my PC and transfer it to my EHD’s
      – it sometimes says it’s syncing to dropbox and takes an hour or more syncing, but when I go to grab the files from my PC or someone else goes to grab them, they aren’t there…it didn’t really sync. It was just pretending.
      – I can’t update or change my Google calendar in Chrome on the Mac (so annoying)

That’s all I can think of off the top of my head. It sure does look pretty though and I feel really cool when I take it with me places. And it is significantly lighter than my PC, which I love. But, I don’t feel the Mac love…at all. I do love my iPhone and iPad and after using my kids Kindle Fires, won’t switch. But I don’t think I will buy another Mac again.

      Okay…running to take shelter!

      • Sherrie says:

Steph, So sorry your having so much trouble on your mac!! I love love love my mac’s I have 3 desk top and 2 macbook Pro laptops.. Don’t have any of the problems you’ve mentioned and I have old macs from the mid 2000 to current? I know how you feel though when you want to love something and you just can’t!! How frustrating!!

  21. Tina says:

I decided to get on Scrap Stacks and do a little stacking today. The only place I have my layouts is my Flickr account. When I tried to stack from there a little box popped up and said I couldn’t stack from Flickr. Has anyone else had trouble with this?

    • steph says:

Yeah, Flickr won’t let you pin from there either to Pinterest. I don’t know if you can change settings in your account to allow it or not…kinda doubt it. :(

  22. SharonS says:

Hi Girls! I listened to the show last week during my endless trip home from Kansas City in the dark with an iffy (in my opinion) car and am now starting to fool around with ScrapStacks a little more.

Here’s my question–is there a way to get back to the original stacker so I can follow her? I’m following Steph and Katie but am not sure how to find anyone else… I restacked a fabulous layout that Katie stacked but I’d love to see more of that artist’s work!

I’ve started stacking some of my old old LOs so I can have them all in one place. I hope if you have an unlimited day it will be on a weekend ;) Thanks!
