We are celebrating 75 shows and answering the questions you have been wondering most about us as scrappers, business owners, and our personal life. What was Peppermint surprised about when she met Katie and I for the first time? What designers have contributed to The Digi Files the most? Why did Katie’s daughter start school? You guys are on the first question about how the 3 of you got together, and I had to pause and comment. I remember that you guys were answering a question about great and easy techniques for drop shadowing, and one of you mentioned that Peppermint had a “mind-blowing drop shadow tutorial” on her blog and you were having a hard time finding it on her blog. Then I remember Izzy went off on a tangent about if it was so amazing and if it was his blog, he’d have a button in the sidebar with “mind-blowing drop shadow tutorial” so that people would find the most amazing content on the blog. I also remember him commenting on how funny her url address was… frickonastick.com. Blame Izzy….
I’ve listened to and loved every episode! All 126 of them!

    • Steph says:

I’m super impressed you remember all of those details. It’s all coming back to me, now that you mention it! :)

  2. Joyce says:

Wow! 75 podcasts already! Steph, I knew how expensive that headset was when you sent it to me (I looked it up!) and I love it. My husband was impressed and a wee jealous. I really take good care of it, storing it in the pouch. When I met you, Steph, you looked quite normal in height to me and not like a cute, young relative of the jolly green giant. You probably look taller because you squish down and people think there is a reason for it! Or maybe you have extra good posture that makes you seem taller. Thanks to all of you for sharing your lives and scrapbooking loves with us, your devoted listeners.

    • Steph says:

Oh Joyce!! You always make me laugh right out loud!! THANK YOU!! If I was a relative of the Jolly Green Giant, that might make it easier for you to spot them when you are in Logan! ;) I’m going to come see you this summer!

I really loved this show and getting to know more about three of my favorite scrapping personalities. :)

I was curious how Katie’s son was doing. I homeschool our 11 y/o aspie boy and hearing Katie talk about her son is like a glance into a crystal ball. (a positive one because sometimes I think aspie puberty is going to kill us all) When my son was 6ish, he used to say he wanted to be an evil genius when he grew up. (I apologize in advance if that ever comes to fruition) My son is an expert in certain areas of history (mostly military), but doesn’t see it as a career choice either. And as for not wanting to bore a teacher with things they already know? My kiddo has always done that, so I love the idea of a formula– how clever!

Glad also to know that I’m not the only one with a diverse work history. :)

    Here’s to another 75+ shows!! ♥

    • Katie Nelson says:

I’m laughing because we went through the “evil genius” phase around here too! The teenage years are tough, but I’d take them any day over the toddler ones. :)

So in a moment of dork, I decided to see if “En Fuego” meant what i thought it did… except I made a type-o: http://twf.wikia.com/wiki/N_Fuego :)

  5. Ok this is funny hearing you talk about the ‘heat’. In Perth, we don’t usually have heating in our houses. Most people have a gas heater in their living room and some people have a wood fire. When our baby girl was born in the depths of winter and we had a little ceramic heater on all night in our room as she got too cold in her first day or two at home. We had the temp set to 12C (53F) the heater stayed on all night and my husband and I were sweating! (Oh and I’m the ‘cold’ person in the family)

We consider it cold if the house gets down to 10 C (50F) and I always wondered why my UK friends thought it was freezing here in Perth. Then I realised, we have no double glazing, central heating etc and we all just wear our coats inside for the 6 weeks or so that it gets done to 0C (32F) overnight.

Gotta love the weather! It always gives us something to talk about!

  6. Kathy28 says:

Awesome show ladies! I just want to say thank you for your dedication to this show. I found myself going “yes,” “me too!” and “I get that.” as you went through all your topics. I’ve made good friends on-line through LOAD (introduced to it by paperclipping). My 3 sisters all tower over me so the height challenges are common. I’ve adopted ACDSee for organization (Lightroom is just beyond my patience right now but I own it now). But most of all, I feel like you three are my friends. Listening to you every week is fun and inspirational. Know that you have made a difference in my scrapping and my life. Keep up the great work!

  7. Anna Forrest says:

FYI Peppermint: if you sold SVGs then those of us with other cutting machines could use them too *hint, hint* :)

    • StudioWendy says:

And, you CAN open SVG files in the regular version of the Studio software. It’s all I have, and I have imported the SVG files without any trouble (although you do have to resize when you import since they don’t import at 100%). But, for all those who want an easier way to make a collage sheet of elements and better files to trace from, my new die cut toolkit is in testing with my CT right now. Should be out in the next week or two! Thanks for the heads up on not selling Studio files, though. I didn’t know that was a limitation!

    • Anna Forrest says:

Oops, now that I get in front of my software – the pazzles at least opens the eps format natively – not svg. But it is easy enough to convert between those two. :)

  8. LeeAndra says:

Katie, you made me laugh out loud (which is, sadly, not an unusual thing for me here at work!) when you said you did what ‘every English major does: get a job unrelated to their degree.’ Ha! BTDT.

I, too, have an English degree and thus far it has proved to be a remarkably pretty piece of paper and nothing more.

Glad to see that I’m not the only one to have fallen into the black hole known as People Who Possess Fruity-Tooty Liberal Arts Degrees.

    • Anna Forrest says:

Another one with a useless degree here too! My Marine Biology degree does me so much good here in the frigid, buried in 20ft of snow, middle of nowhere and certainly not close to an ocean Wisconsin. :)

    • Katie says:

The good news is that it’s still a college degree. I went into being an English major knowing that it wouldn’t get me a job, but I love that it gave me an wonderful education! I do laugh about it though ;)

      • Bobbi says:

I had a friend, a fellow English major, who would answer the inevitable “What are you going to do with an English degree?” by saying “I’m going to put it on a pedestal and write poems to it.”

  9. Tammy says:

Chelle (from Chelle’s Creations) had posted on her blog about missing getting together with friends to scrap and how The Digi Show fills that void.
I have totally felt the same way. I used to get together with one friend once a week to scrap and then several friends once a month. I have really missed that camaraderie.
I love listening to you ladies every week as I’m scrapping, or just surfing! Thank you for filling that void and for teaching me so much! :)

  10. Edie says:

Wanted to let you know I’m one of those paper scrapbookers who love the show. I started project life this year. I heard Pepppermint talk about trying something new each week. So, I decided to document 50 new things for my 50th year. I started with 12 x12 but it was too big. When Peppermint “revealed” she was doing project life using a 6 x 8 album, I thought that might work. Now to transfer to the new pages! Good ideas and inspiration can be applied to all areas of memory keeping.

  11. Leslie says:

I think the Silhouette sounds like the Bill Cosby pen from Picture Pages, not from Reading Rainbow. :)

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FWg0U3fi7sE

Around the 2 minute mark, he starts to use the pen.

  12. Hi ladies!!

Hey, Peppermint, lots of people who sell cutting files (like me!!) include DXF files (in Illustrator, ungroup everything, then Export to DXF). DXF files can be opened in the regular, non-designer Silhouette Studio software. :)

  13. iamdigiscrapper says:

Thanks for answering my question about height, ladies! I always find it interesting to know how tall people are…I hope that’s not creepy…it just helps me picture people better. :) And, completely unrelated to this particular episode…I wanted to let you know I started Project Life! I ordered the Design A pages over the holidays and did my first layout using one spread for a week, but after the holidays things quieted down and I decided to just do 1 page/wk (so that a spread is 2 weeks). I find that I have no trouble finding material (photos and journaling) for about 6 slots, and then the remaining spots are filler cards. It’s a fun way to use some cute photos that might not “merit” a page of their own, and I’m also enjoying adding current events, quotes, and random thoughts. With only 1 page/wk, the week comes together pretty quickly, so I don’t get too far behind ;) The only PL stuff I’m actually using is the pages, and sometimes I print digital journal cards, but I mostly use paper supplies that I already have laying around. I’m finally using my stash of washi tape and glitter alphas! I’m still using a lot of digital techniques, but *gasp* I might take a break from making digital pages. Although…I did just print my first book at Adorama, and I might be in love. Anyway, all that is to say…I enjoy the show every week, and your recommendations have been very inspiring.

  14. Ann says:

I love you all for the bit of brightness and fun you bring to my week. I amone of those non-digi scrappers who learns something every week. Keep singing about fire as you “light up” my week!

  15. Lia says:

Kind of a random question, but I know a while ago somebody’s pick was a place that rented camera lens, I was wondering if anyone remember what the name of that company was? I tried searching through the old shows, but I can’t seem to find it, and it seems like a really fun idea for a trip I’m going to be going on soon (from what I can remember, which obviously isn’t much).

Thanks to anyone who can help!!

    • I don’t know which company was recommended on the show, but I do know that borrowlenses.com is a great, reliable source for lens rental. It is an awesome way to explore a lens!

  16. Melanie L. says:

I love each and every show and I’ve listened from the very beginning. Thanks so much for all that you do!

I had to get on here and let you know–did you know that Totally Rad just came out with an iPhone app? I have way too many photo apps, but I MUST get this one! It’s called PicTapGo. I heard about it on Facebook from Cathy Zielske.

  17. Cynthia says:

    Hello ladies!
I just discovered your show this past November and have been going back and listening to and loving them all! I don’t look forward to being caught up because then I will only have one show per week to listen to.

I just had to leave a comment to recommend a website that I thought about when Katie was telling that her son loves grammar. “Cake Wrecks (when professional cakes go horribly, hilariously wrong)” has some really great bad grammar cakes posted. Maybe you have already hear of it but if not check it out it can be very amusing.
    http://www.cakewrecks.com/

I have heard you all talk about metadata and wondered if there is a way to add metadata to a photo right on my ipod. Any ideas?

Thanks for all the information and inspiration for digital scrapbooking. I love the show!

  18. Sarah H says:

Right after I heard Steph say “Heart on fire, brain on ice” I ran to my white board and wrote it big letters. This is how I want to live, I tend to analyze everything so much I never get what I really want to do done. This is also how I want my boys to live, following their passions. I heart all three of you and patiently wait each week for the next show.
